- In June 2023, A proton exchange membrane water electrolyser with a hypothetical membrane electrode assembly (MEA) that incorporates a graphene oxide (GO) layer at the cathode side was proposed by the MDPI. By doing this, the MEA will be strengthened to enable operation at a greater pressure differential between the anode and cathode sides, reducing losses and doing away with the requirement for hydrogen cleanup procedures.
- In Dec 2023, The Chinese Academy of Sciences' Shanghai Advanced Research Institute (SARI) suggested a MEA based on an anode with gradient tapered arrays for high performance and a three-dimensional membrane/catalytic layer interface.
