Renewable Diesel Market Introduction and Overview

According to SPER Market Research, the Global Renewable Diesel Market is estimated to reach USD 51.34 billion by 2034 with a CAGR of 8.36%.

The report includes an in-depth analysis of the Global Renewable Diesel Market, including market size and trends, product mix, Applications, and supplier analysis. The market for renewable diesel is expanding quickly because of the growing need for low-carbon fuels, government regulations requiring cleaner energy, and growing climate change awareness. Renewable diesel, which is made from sustainable feedstocks including vegetable and animal fats, is a cleaner substitute for traditional diesel without the need for engine changes. It is becoming more popular in the logistics and transportation industries, particularly in areas with stringent emission standards. To reach decarbonization targets, major energy and oil firms are making significant investments in the manufacture of renewable diesel. Large-scale market expansion is still significantly hampered by the high cost of production and the scarcity of sustainable feedstocks.
 Renewable Diesel Market
By Feedstock Insights
By feedstock, the renewable diesel market is divided into categories such as animal fat and vegetable oil. Because vegetable oils are renewable, biodegradable, and can lower greenhouse gas emissions, the market is predicted to expand significantly by 2034. Its high energy density supports efficient combustion and engine power, allowing for performance on par with petroleum diesel. Production is encouraged and sourcing is made easier by the abundance of feedstocks, including rapeseed, soybeans, canola, and palm oil. HVO100 fuel, a sustainable diesel made from hydrotreated vegetable oil, will be used in more BMW automobiles thanks to a partnership between Neste and BMW in December 2024.

By Application Insights
The market for renewable diesel is divided into segments based on application, such as power generation and transportation. In 2024, the market is dominated by the transportation segment, which is expected to grow even more due to growing adoption among heavy-duty fleets, logistics companies, and municipal transit agencies seeking to achieve sustainability targets without sacrificing performance. Cleaner public transportation solutions are being prioritized in North America and Europe in order to lower carbon emissions and comply with environmental requirements. Neste provided renewable fuel to school districts in the United States in March 2022 to aid in the shift away from conventional diesel buses, which are a major source of greenhouse gas emissions and public health problems.

Regional Insights
The market for renewable diesel is dominated by North America, and by 2034, it is predicted to continue to increase. By providing incentives for the use of low-carbon fuels, supportive government regulations such as the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) and the Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) are accelerating adoption. Renewable diesel is becoming more and more popular as a cleaner substitute for conventional diesel due to its growing use in the construction, transportation, and agricultural industries. To increase their market presence, major industrial players are aggressively establishing strategic alliances. To boost the production of renewable diesel in the United States, Neste Oyj and Ohio-based Marathon Petroleum Corp. formed a joint venture in March 2022.

Market Competitive Landscape
The renewable diesel market is competitive, with major players like Neste, Valero, Chevron, and Marathon Petroleum investing in capacity expansion, joint ventures, and feedstock innovation. Companies focus on sustainability, regulatory compliance, and technological advancement to gain market share and ensure long-term growth. Some of the key market players are BP, Chevron, Diamond Green Diesel, Eni, Gevo, Marathon Petroleum, Neste, PBF Energy, Repsol, Shell.

Recent Developments:
In October 2024, Nexa 100% Renewable Diesel, a premium fuel that works with all diesel engines, was offered by Repsol at its service stations. Its unique formulation prolongs engine life and improves performance.
In February 2024, Colonial Oil and Neste, a Finnish biofuels company, were working together on a renewable diesel project in Savannah, Georgia. By assisting regional container service providers like Terminal Investment and Gateway, the joint venture seeks to increase the supply of renewable diesel in Savannah and the Southeast United States.
